Change Your Account Owner With U.S. Cellular®

How to transfer your account to someone else or split your account between owners
Be Prepared With These Time-Saving Tips

Good to know:
  • You must be the account owner, an authorized contact

    You may appoint one or more persons to manage your account ("Authorized Contacts"). These Authorized Contacts will be able to access and make changes to your account, including but not limited to; view information about the account, add and/or terminate lines of Service, purchase equipment, extend and/or renew the IT, make payments on the account, etc. You are responsible for any account changes and/or purchases made by any Authorized Contact. Authorized users could be:

    • The Account Owner or primary contact is financially responsible for the account
    • A Power of Attorney (POA) is granted access to the account and may act on the Account Owner's behalf
    • An Authorized Contact is granted access to the account and, in some cases, may act on the Account Owner's behalf
    • A User Contact is granted limited access
    • An Unlisted User has no documented affiliation with the account
    • An Anonymous account is a prepaid customer who chose not to provide a name. These accounts can be with or without a PIN. The inclusion of a PIN does not alter transactions the customer can complete.
    or have power of attorney on the account
  • Both current and new owner must sign Change of Ownership form in person at store
  • MDN must be over 90 days old at time of transfer or change
  • New owner is subject to credit approval and must open a Postpaid Plan account with U.S. Cellular
  • Security deposit and/or down payment must be made at time of transaction
  • Installment contracts can be transferred pending credit approval of new owner
  • Devices with active installment contracts must be activated on the new account
    • However, devices on installment contracts cannot be transferred to a new account owner during the first 15 days of activation
  • Accessories purchased with Accessory Installment Pricing plans must be paid off in full to be transferred to a new account owner
  • Existing discounts, offers, promotions, tax credits, etc., must meet all eligibility requirements before transferring to a new owner
Make sure to have:
  • A valid, government-issued photo ID

    A valid photo ID is a government- or state-issued ID that is not expired and that has a clearly distinguishable photo. Including (but not limited to): driver's license, state issued identification card, passport, military ID, Personal Identity Verification (PIV), federally recognized tribal ID.

  • Information for credit application, if you will be a new owner on account
  • Form of payment
